The Black & Decker LSTE525 Cordless Grass Trimmer is a new version of the Black & Decker LST420 string trimmer. The Black and Decker LST420 model has been a Best Seller on Amazon and the LSTE525 model is an improvement from that. Two major improvements have been made including a stronger lithium battery that promises to run longer. There are also two speeds on this improved trimmer. The higher speed will chop your heavier duty weeds. However, while it does a better job of trimming, it will eat up your battery quicker. Using the slower speed will extend your battery time.

The difference between the Black & Decker LSTE523 and the Black & Decker LSTE525 is that the LSTE523 includes (1) 3.0Ah battery and the Black & Decker LSTE523 includes (2) 1.5Ah batteries. The trimmer itself is the same.

One of the things that I have noticed while putting these reviews together is that the line on most grass trimmers either advances too fast, too slow or not at all. Most of the people who reviewed the Black & Decker LSTE525 actually loved the way the line advanced. EasyFeed has been added to this trimmer, allowing you to advance the line when you feel you need it. No more “bumping”.

Powered by a Black & Decker 20 Volt Battery

The Black & Decker LSTE525 and LSTE523 are powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery. You have two options when you order this grass trimmer. By ordering the LSTE523 model you will receive (1) 3.0Ah battery. This battery lasts nearly twice as long as the smaller battery that is available. A disadvantage of only having one battery is that when it runs out of power you are done for several hours while it is recharging. But, the advantage is that with the longer life battery you may have plenty of time to complete your work and you won’t have to switch batteries.

When you order the LSTE525 model you will receive (2) 1.5Ah batteries. You have an advantage here because you can use one battery while the other battery is charging.

The Black & Decker LSTE525 and LSTE523 are part of the PowerCommand family of power tools. Because the tools in the PowerCommand system share batteries, you have the convenience of always having a charged battery available. Once you obtain a few of these tools, you also have the option of purchasing tools without the batteries and saving some money.

EasyFeed System To Advance The Line

EasyFeed allows you to advance the line as you need it with the push of a button. You determine when you want more line to come out. AND no more “bumping”!

This is a single string. A single string makes it easier to control than a double line and does less damage to wood and paint when trimming up against a fence or the house. It also tends to be quieter than a double line. The push button method of advancing the line gives you more control of when the line is advanced.

This Black and Decker grass trimmer uses model AF-100 line which is size 0.065 round. It comes in already prewound spools. You can also wind your own spools with bulk line if you wish. Whichever way you want to go, don’t forget to order some extra line so you will not run out in the middle of trimming your yard.

Converts From Trimmer to Edger

This tool is designed for trimming areas of overgrowth after mowing, as well as edging along borders, sidewalks and flower beds. It will easily convert from a trimmer to a wheeled edger. Just push down on the handle and rotate the trimmer head 180 degrees. Then place the wheel on the ground and it works wonderfully as an edger. You can see this in action in the video above. It’s really simple then to rotate it back to the trimming option and continue on your way.

✅ There is no mixing of fuel, yanking on a cord or dragging extension cords around. Just push the battery on, push a button and you are ready to trim. A nice alternative to a gas model and still gives you the flexibility of going wherever you need to go with it.
